Decades-long cancer prevention study aims to enroll participants in Corpus Christi

City Councilwoman Colleen McIntyre knows the pain and suffering of losing a family member to cancer.

She was 17, a senior in high school, when her mom died of leukemia.

“It’s difficult to watch some suffer,” she said. “It’s difficult to watch someone die and not have them in your life anymore.”

Now, a mother of four herself, McIntyre has registered to participate in a nationwide study aimed at helping researchers unlock the mysteries of cancer by better understanding genetic, environmental and lifestyle factors behind the disease.

“I just want to be a part of helping,” she said.
